Kahea to All O‘ahu Folks: Native Hawaiian Justice Task Force Meeting – Tues. Oct. 9

Native Hawaiian Justice Task Force Meeting
Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012
2-4 p.m.
At Office of Hawaiian Affairs
711 Kapi‘olani Blvd. The meeting is on the 5th floor in the Library
Parking is in the structure on Curtis Street across the street from the OHA Building.

At this meeting they will present the draft report to the legislature. Although CAP was unable to attend all of the Task Force’s earlier meeting, CAP found the previous meetings that it did attend to be nothing short of appalling. CAP is asking that everyone who can attend this meeting, to please come.

The AG’s office and the Prosecutor’s office have been really awful. We have heard things said that not only lack aloha, understanding, and content, but have also been incredibly offensive and show absolutely NO concern for our incarcerated people.

Some of the task force is working hard to bury the Native Hawaiian data, even suggesting that we look into Micronesians in prison. WHAT? It’s the Native Hawaiian Task Force that grew out of the 2010 OHA report on the Disparate Treatment of Native Hawaiians in the Criminal Justice System.

Please come to this meeting. Show the task force that the community does care about justice. We can’t let a few bullies get away with minimizing the problem…and it is a problem. Anyone who has ever gone into any of our facilities knows this.

Meeting Minutes (which in CAP’s opinion are whitewashed):
NHJTFMinutes 2.07.12
NHJTFMinutes 4.03.12
NHJTFMinutes 5.01.12
NHJTFMinutes 6.05.12
NHJTFMinutes 7.10.12
NHJTFMinutes 8.14.12
