Passing of Delbert Wakinekona

Sad news this morning from Kat:

I wanted to share the news that I received this morning on the passing of DELBERT WAKINEKONA.

Delbert is the man who was incarcerated for 41 years and for whom we helped get a compassionate release. Delbert died of stage 4 liver disease while family and friends were working to get him admitted to a hospice.

It was my extreme pleasure to know Delbert, who was an amazing person with no bitterness — just full of love and concern for our youth and the Hawaiian people.

I am glad that Delbert got to breathe Hawaiian air in freedom at the end of his life.

There are other incarcerated people who should be released on parole to spend their last days with family and friends. The system is broken.

We need your help to pass a real compassionate release bill this session. Please help. I will be sending you notices for bills with CAP positions on them.
