OK, Kat just checked and all 9 bills that CAP worked on have been sent up to the Governor. He has 45 days (July 8 or 9) to sign, let the bill become law without his signature or veto the bill. He issues his “intention to veto” list around June 25th.

Now is the time to contact the Governor on any or all of the bills that you care about. Interestingly, the Governor’s website says: Governor Abercrombie is committed to closing the communication gap between Hawaii’s people and their government.” However, the Governor disconnected his e-mail so there appears to be no way to e-mail him. You can contact him by letter, phone, or fax:

HB 2205 HD1 SD1 CD1         HABITUAL PROPERTY CRIME

Imposes a mandatory minimum term of one year imprisonment upon conviction for the offense of habitual property crime. Authorizes probation only for a first conviction of the offense of habitual property crime. (HB2205 CD1)

Enhances the juvenile justice system by concentrating secure bed space on serious juvenile offenders. Strengthens disposition, adjustment, diversion, and services available for juvenile offenders to ensure family court judges, court staff, departmental staff, and service providers have the tools needed to keep youth safely and effectively in their communities. Increases interagency collaboration. Establishes a temporary Juvenile Justice Oversight Advisory Council. Makes an appropriation of $1,260,000. (HB2490 CD2)

Increases minimum wage rate to $7.75 per hour beginning on 1/1/15, $8.50 per hour beginning on 1/1/16, $9.25 per hour beginning on 1/1/17, and $10.10 per hour beginning on 1/1/18. Increases the tip credit to 50 cents per hour beginning on 1/1/15, and 75 cents per hour beginning on 1/1/16; provided that beginning 1/1/15, the combined amount the employee receives in wages and tips is at least $7 more than the applicable minimum wage. Affords victims and surviving immediate family members, and any accompanying loved ones, the right to participate in restorative justice processes for the harm suffered by the victim, upon written request, and requires those parties to be informed of this right by the police or prosecutor.
