After a committee hearing in February 2014, Sen. Espero asked the Director of Public Safety to schedule both a Reentry Commission meeting and a Corrections Population Management Commission (CPMC) meeting. The CPMC finally met this summer and the Reentry Commission is just now meeting. The last Reentry Commission meeting was in January 2013. What is interesting is that this is the very same tactic that the Lingle-Aiona administration used when closing Kulani. They did not consult with the CPMC and pulled a fast one. Now the department has a $1 billion proposal to renovate and build new facilities in Hawai`i and they are again trying to avoid discussing their plans  with these  legislatively-established bodies. This does nothing to engender any trust. Very sad.
