Increases the monetary threshold to $750 with respect to property or services for theft in the second degree, effective 2016.  Provides for 2% automatic yearly increase thereafter.

Here is CAP’s testimony on this bill as it was heard in the House,

  • A recent poll in Texas (a red state) found that 57% of the people said that $1,500 should be the felony threshold.
  • Hawai`i’s $300 felony threshold (punishable by up to 5 years incarceration) has not changed since 1986
