GREAT NEWS!

CAPWATCHToday, the CONFERENCE COMMITTEE PASSED SB 982, THE MEDICAL AMNESTY/GOOD SAMARITAN BILL. This is OUR victory!  Mahalo nui to all who supported this life-saving measure. Hawai`i joins 17 other states and more than 200 colleges and universities passing this best practice for community health. Now it just needs the final vote in order to send it up to the Governor.

The major issues are business model, # of dispensarie; timeline; taxation; criminal penalties; caregivers’ reciprocity. The House wants to simplify the taxes and suggests a 2.5% surcharge to be placed in a fund for substance abuse treatment and prevention. The house will prepare the CD1 and the Committee reconvenes on Monday, 4.27 at 8:45 am in 229.
