DAY TWO – FRIDAY, APRIL 22, 2016
We forgot to include the Penal Code Review Bill (HB 2561) in yesterday’s conference report and the results of the resolution to audit the AG’s asset forfeiture fund, so here they are followed by the one bill that conferenced today – HB 1774 – appropriations for houseless youth and families.
HB 2561 HD1 SD1 – PENAL CODE REVIEW BILL – ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE
The House is tinkering with language to make the habitual criminal language broader. What has been enormously frustrating is that the prosecutors sandbagged the final hearing of this bill and introduced things that were NEVER DISCUSSED during the 6 months of Penal Code Review Committee discussions. This is so sneaky and not the first time that they have done things like this.
The House will offer a CD1 on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 2:15 pm.
HCR 4 REQUESTING THE AUDITOR TO AUDIT THE ASSET FORFEITURE PROGRAM OF THE DEPARTMENT OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL.
This resolution PASSED WAM and will go for a floor vote. It has sailed through with no opposition.
HB 1774 HD 1 OUTREACH AND SUPPORT FOR HOMELESS YOUTH
This bill was deferred (dead) because they put $1.1 million in the budget. Kat spoke with the State Homeless Coordinator, Scott Morishige, and he said that the appropriation was good for them. Kat needs to speak to him about ensuring that there is money for houseless youth. It is good to have this in the budget.
