CAP is getting the word out!

It is important to get the word out on what is happening in the justice arena!

On Monday, March 13th from 9-2 there is a FESTIVAL OF RESISTANCE at UH MANOA CAMPUS CENTER. CAP is sharing a table with the Community Justice Coalition – Ka`imi will be there from 9-10 and then Kat will be there until about 1 pm. We have one other volunteer to help out. Please email Kat (kat.caphi@gmail.com )and Ka`imi (mknaloha@gmail.com) if you can put in some time at the table.

On Saturday, March 4, Kat presented at a training for the Kuleana Academy, an entity that is training progressives to run for office, organize campaigns, and work for the community. Great group of progressive people from all islands…very hopeful in these times!

Also coming up, Kat has been invited to present at The International Coalition for Children with Incarcerated Parents (INCCIP) in New Zealand (Aotearoa). So, she has been researching and writing a 5,000 word paper that she will be present. Delegates are attending from 19 countries and 5 continents.  They are from universities, research networks, and organizations that work with the families and children of prisoners and advocacy groups.

I am convinced that imprisonment is a way of pretending to solve the problem of crime. It does nothing for the victims of crime, but perpetuates the idea of retribution, thus maintaining the endless cycle of violence in our culture. It is a cruel and useless substitute for the elimination of those conditions–poverty, unemployment, homelessness, desperation, racism, greed–which are at the root of most punished crime. The crimes of the rich and powerful go mostly unpunished. – Howard Zinn
